Democrats have got to start getting tougher at calling out these lies. Trump and new conservative hero Musk - they are just fabricating numbers. “Elon Musk stole 2 billion from taxpayers for his personal use” is as true of a statement as what Trump was making about tariffs and especially social security and numbers DOGE has supposedly found.
Remember when republicans booed Biden at the SOTU when he called out republicans who want to cut social security? Even though it was already on video, by many senators and house members who have stated they wanted to do so? Rick Scott’s plan to cut social security? Yet stupid people believe Trump.
He stood in front of the country last night and made up numbers. If the amount of dead and over 100 year old people getting SS benefits was what he claims, the USA would be spending almost three quarters of a trillion dollars a year solely on SS benefits if the average payment was $500 - I mean seriously, millions of people fraudulently on the payroll? Give me a break, how can people believe that nonsense? Find and clean up actual fraud, if they were doing such a good job they’d be able to report facts instead of just making stuff up.
It’s so transparent, it’s almost not even gaslighting right now and like a running joke, as if the republicans are daring their base to stand up to them. They won’t, and they sense that, so it’s almost like the GOP is just running with it. Just say stuff and marvel at how nobody calls you out on it.
Democrats are trying, but not enough. They’re acting like it’s business as usual. Simply going into the echo chamber and saying “they’re lying!” doesn’t work. Those who know that already support you, and those who don’t will not listen to you. How do you break through to these people when their entire belief system can change from minute to minute based on what incredibly ignorant and stupid elderly felon thinks?
